Sorry for the repeat post if you kindly watch my dA! I’ve wanted to post this for a while because it makes for a hilarious and horrible personal art record. Accompanied with what I said there [and PS: no bashing on anime; I just personally need to draw with a more comicky slant, which is why I made the (possibly completely invisible haha) switch]:

I thought this would be fun/interesting, but this took way longer than I expected to do! Not to mention, looking back at old art is like stabbing yourself in the eye, aaagh. Nevertheless here: a limited summary of 13 years’ art. Sometimes people have very kindly said I’m talented, but I usually offer the truth in return: nah, it’s just been a long time.

Though the transition to extreme animu to a more cartoony/comicy slant is pretty awkward, I’m retroactively glad I went for the easier route at the beginning. The 90s were LIEFELD’s dominion man, can you imagine the amount of impressionable casualities caught in the crossfire of pouches and tiny feet?! Yikes. The narrow miss gives me the chills.

Also, the oekaki and digital stint isn’t emphasised, but it was bad. It’s no good if you need digital media as a filter, a crutch, a mask to hide how undeveloped your art actually is. This was exactly the realisation we had in 2003 - it’s really frightening to not be able to actually draw in person on paper, where your level of ‘skill’ is essentially naked. Though it’s not evident here, I actually actively held off CGing regularly from 2004 to 2008 because I was utterly terrified that it would happen again. Nowadays I try to keep my hand in sketching and trad media to force myself to live with my mistakes.

So - yep. It’s been a long time. And it’s waaaaaay too late to stop now…”

I don’t want to. I wanna blame it on sneaking the piece very fast and not having the thin sepia anymore, but, honestly, I just messed up his face and that really burns. Also, crap fake background is crap fake. We need more colours for this shit, man, I dragged some teal colour pencil over the sea experimentally and FELT DIRTY.

Now I really need sleep, crawling up to finish this has given me a holy motherheadache.

Also, I got a few sexy girl commissions recently, which is a godsend, really! Bya had commished nekkid pin-ups of her adorable Phony girls first, which I did enjoy hehe, and then Kait commished me for a postcard-sized Copics piece: here’s a kinda progression shot, but it’s really just the lineart and the back of the piece after I was done, because I’m usually panicking over colouring while I’m in the midst of it. The skin blending turned out quite nicely, but it’s definitely time to buy more! Now I know where the commission money is going to…
